Wolff's law and body load

Wolff’s law

Tissue in a healthy person will adapt to the loads under which it is placed. If load increases, the tissue will afterwards remodel itself to become stronger to resist that kind of load.

Wolff described this specifically for the bone trabecular structure.

The inverse is also true: if the loading on a bone decreases, the bone will become less dense and weaker due to the lack of the stimulus required for continued remodeling.
